Peploum's inspiration lies at the intersection of the power of women and the mysteries that lie in the endless depths of the sea. Our SS'24 collection “Ethereal Dive” celebrates the courage and grace of Japan's ancient Ama divers.

Ama Divers are traditional female divers who have existed for thousands of years on the shores of the Sea of Japan in Japan. These divers dive to the depths of the sea, often holding their breath and using a special diver. The origins of this tradition can be traced back to Japan's historic fishing villages, where Ama Divers not only gather food from the sea, but also pay homage to the spirit of the sea.

Shima, which gives the names to the products in our collection, evokes the coastline of Japan and reminds us of life on the shores of the sea and the beauty of nature, while Isogi, with its simple and elegant lines, refers to the work clothes of divers.

Ise is named after one of the ancient Japanese diving villages, while Isobue symbolizes the sea whistle used by divers.

Finally, Mie represents a city that was the former capital of Japan, giving the collection a timeless and historical touch.

But Divers occupy an important place in Japanese culture. For thousands of years, these women have contributed to society, not only economically but also culturally, by maintaining their connection to the sea and practicing traditional diving techniques. Their courage is symbolized by their struggle to make a living in harsh sea conditions.
